Today I gave the kids class the “sugar challenge”. The challenge is to try to go one, two or three weeks without eating any foods that have added sugar and to see what happens.
The challenge is meant to be experiential. I know that my own diet choices involve eating very little added sugar in my diet. This seems to help my training – that is to say that since cutting sugar from my diet things seem to go better for me. It is a far cry from a well orchestrated experiment. I didn’t collect any data. I didn’t isolate my variables. The sample size was… just me. Never the less, I seem to feel better than when I didn’t pay any attention to how much sugar I ate.
So the challenge is, again – experiential. Try it and see what happens. The really cool part (I think) is that when you do have something sweet (and you haven’t had it in a while) it tastes amazing.
