Today in kid’s class we worked a few reversals from the guard position, both top and bottom. For the bottom player, we worked the scissor sweep and one way of coming back to seated randori. For the top player, we worked the double over pass.
What to do with all these techniques? Play, of course. The marvelous thing is watching students try the techniques against an active, resisting partner. Sometimes the techniques work, sometimes they don’t. Sometimes something completely unique crops up. Sometimes the students know other techniques and manage to get those techniques to work because their partner is anticipating the technique that got worked that day.
In short, it’s fun to watch students play, learn and adapt.
