Guest Teacher!

Sandy was guest teacher for Saturday’s kid’s class.  Here was her synopsis:
The animal kingdom has informed the movements of kung fu (and other Chinese martial arts, such as Xing Yi) for thousands of years. Although our style does does not identify as an “animal style” in the way that, say, Eagle Claw or Praying Mantis kung fu does, we still owe a debt to our our furry / feathered / reptilian friends.
This often manifests in our conditioning. Even relative newcomers to the WAKF are well-versed in bear walking, crab walking, snake crawling, seal walking, etc. Participants in today’s kids’ class had to draw on their own creativity to imagine what some other animals might bring to this drill. They were asked to demonstrate penguin walking, monkey walking, panda walking, etc. without being given any instructions on how to move.
Why?
Because creativity and spontaneity are two of the five cornerstones of Mo Duk Pai (six points if you post the other three to the comments.)
Thanks Sandy!
