For our Mother’s day grappling class, we made two short films on the mount position. In the first video, we define and describe the position itself. In the second video, we describe one technique (the bridge) for getting out of the mount position if you’re on the bottom.
The mount is when one partner is on top of the other and their legs are “free” (meaning the bottom player does not have their legs wrapped around the top player). This position is bad news for the bottom player and good news for the top player.
The bridge is one technique for getting out of the bottom mount position. It involves “capturing” an arm and leg on one side and then lifting up with the hip and rolling to the side. The purpose of capturing an arm and leg is to prevent the top player from stopping the roll. The purpose of lifting the hips is to use the body’s powerhouse (core) to do the work of getting the top player slightly off the ground, thus making rolling them onto their back much easier than trying to do so with arm strength.
