The mixed kids and adult class keeps growing… more kids and more adults. The trend so far is that all of the adults who are in class also have kids in the class. The question that comes to my mind as a teacher is: “will they be able to learn Kung Fu in this environment?”
My answer so far is I don’t know. It’s an experiment for sure. The format of kids classes and adult classes are somewhat different. The content of kids and adult classes are somewhat different. Despite that, I’ve always considered it a joy as a teacher to teach parallel classes to both groups. If the kids work on grappling, then so do the adults. If the adults work on the roundhouse kick, then so do the adults.
So does it change if they train together? It certainly feels different as a teacher to have both kids and adults as students in the same class but so far I don’t know if that feeling of difference is a good thing, a bad thing or just a thing that we’ll all have to figure out together to make work for everyone’s benefit. I suspect and hope for the last option.
