Chokes and Reversals

What a bummer it is to find the arm of your grappling partner working its way around your neck again.  They’ve got your back and they’re going for the rear naked choke again!  Don’t panic.  They haven’t gotten it yet.
Are you on your hands and knees?  If so, do a quick assessment of your partner’s position.  Often times, people get really excited when they get someone’s back in grappling and they make the mistake of going for the submission before securing their position.  If this is the case, if they are too high up on you, grab that arm and throw them.
The throw will look like a miniature version of a standing hip throw.  With the right amount of force and follow up, you could wind up with side control or even mount and even if you end up in their guard, it’s a heck of a lot better than having them choking you from behind.
Harken chokers of the world!  Now that you know this can happen to you when you get too excited about getting the submission, establish your position first.  What a bummer to get someone’s back only to have them throw you off!  Be patient.  Get your hooks in and then take the choke.
