Saturday we went over 9 functional movements. Sunday we reviewed the movements and then added 5 “supplemental” movements.
What are the “functional” movements? Glad you asked. They are comprised of 3 families: the squats, the presses and the dead lifts. Functional means moving weight in a mechanically efficient way. To put it back in the rubrick of operating in the external world, it answers that burning question, how do I easily lift that spare truck tire off the ground and put it on that 6 foot high rack in my garage.
The dead lift family teaches you how to pick an object up off the ground. The squat family teaches you how to move an object from a seated position to a standing position. The press family teaches you take an object from your shoulders and put it overhead.
I’ll talk more about the supplemental movements some other time. I’m still busy absorbing day one.
