From Worse to Bad

Grappling class 9/11

After Sunday’s class, I asked Bill what he thought I should work on during the BJJ classes and he said three things:

1. Show people how to get out of bad positions (mount bottom, side control bottom, rear mounted, etc.)
2. Show people the positions they shouldn’t be trying submissions from (guard top, mount bottom, etc.)
3. Give people a few submissions because that’s what they think they need (even though, as beginners what they really need is an understanding of how to survive and how to improve their position.)

So tonight in class we worked one of the fundamental ways to escape side mount bottom. Then, for the candy section of the class, we worked a couple of sweeps against a standup opponent inside our guard.
