This Week…

The amusing thing about teaching a particular technique in grappling class is that it is very difficult to close that particular technique because EVERYONE just learned it.

There are a couple things you can do about this.

You can try and set it up. Your partner will recognize it and fight it but this means you have the perfect opportunity to see how good your timing and set up is. I recommend this for students who already knew the technique that was shown in class.

On the flip side, you could go for the technique we went over last week. Over the course of a week, everyone has probably forgotten what we did so it is a perfect opportunity to surprise your partner. This means, however, that you’ll have to drill that technique from last week – probably on 2 or 3 separate occasions with willing training partners.

Either path you choose requires that you’ve drilled the technique on your own. Drill. Find your timing. Find the small adjustments that need to be made to have effective techniques.
