Today in kids class and adult class, we took a step by step approach in examining our front snap kick. Then after breaking it down into six steps, we chose something to examine during each step – some piece of the technique that we could improve
- Shuffle up – touch the feet together
- Chamber – bring the knee above the waist
- Kick – ground the supporting leg
- Re-Chamber – bring the heel back to the hips
- Step down – touch the feet together
- Back to tiger – end in a good tiger stance
Students took turns watching each other kick and if they saw one (or more) faults, they would simply give the number. For instance, if you saw your partner forget to re-chamber (the most common mistake), you’d simply say “4” and then they’d correct the issue.
After all the detail work, we kicked the pads – because if all of that stuff isn’t helping us kick the pads hard and fast… then it isn’t helping.
