Today in grappling class we played a few turn based games. Jiu Jitsu chess. Find a submission. Find a throw.
Jiu Jitsu chess is a simple grappling game. You take one “move” and then your partner does. The game is over when one person taps. The hard part is gauging how much “one move” constitutes. The interesting part is the fact that the game (unlike a regular grappling match) pauses and you can take your time to find just the right move.
Find a submission is a simple stand up game. Your partner throws slow speed strikes and you try and fit in a submission while staying standing. Find a throw is essentially the same game but you try and fit in a takedown while your partner throws slow speed strikes.
Then of course we did some “real time” grappling.
