We spent pretty much the whole kids class today working on three kicks – the front snap kick, the roundhouse kick and the side thrust kick. The hope was to separate the three by pointing out which part of the foot we’re supposed to hit with for each one.
For the front snap kick, we’re hitting with the ball of the foot. For the roundhouse kick, we’re hitting with the top of the foot. For the side thrust kick, we’re hitting with the heel. Are these the only ways to hit with these three kicks? No, but they’re what we use as basics, so that students have somewhere to start from.
Now the test will be to see if the students who were in class today communicate clearly to their partners in future classes exactly which kick they are throwing because well, there’s nothing quite so convincing as clear communication.
