Break It, Hold It

We worked the guard all class today… and by worked I mean worked on how to break it.  There are so many ways.  So many variations and twists.  Which one should you use?

The one that works.  Which one works?  The one that fits the situation.  What’s the situation?  That’s for you to find out in the moment but the key is exposure.  Get into 1000 different guards and then maybe you’ll start to get a decent feel for it.  Once a week grappling class not enough exposure?  Roll for five minutes before or after class – pick someone you trust and go light.  Think of the once a week class as merely a review session and the little bursts of rolling like your homework.
