The Arm Triangles Keep Coming

Seems like we go over the arm triangle at least once a month during grappling class.  Why?  Because we’re starting to get good at it.  Students are starting to see it from different positions – they are sinking it deeper – they are closing it quicker – they are getting blood chokes instead of cranks.  On the flip side, they are also getting better at thwarting it, avoiding it and even countering it when it’s put on them – which is also good.  Everybody’s offense comes up and so everyone’s defense comes up as well – it’s a mutually beneficial arms race.
We looked a bit at the gift wrap (the video shows a different but very cool use of the move) today and how it can be not just a great transitional tool but also a lead in to the… arm triangle!
After all this discussion of arm triangles, one might be tempted to ask, “but shouldn’t you make your weakest technique your strongest instead of working on something you’re already good at?”  My answer: yes, sometimes.  For today we’ll continue to get better at what we’re already decent at.
Check the whiteboard for feedback.
