Sweeps

We spent a big chunk of time in grappling class going over the butterfly sweep.  It involves getting an inside hook with your foot when you’ve got your partner in guard – butterfly guard.  From there you under hook, stop the post, kick and roll up onto your shoulder
We tend to teach and use the scissor sweep more often that the butterfly sweep and thus it becomes fairly predictable.  The advantage to knowing the butterfly sweep and the scissor sweep is that you’ve got two tools to accomplish the same purpose – get out of the bottom position and get back into the good graces of gravity.
Now just imagine the possibilites if you knew the flower and the kimura (which I taught totally wrong today) sweeps as well…
