Vocabulary

Grappling, like all subcultures, is full of terminology.  We’ll run through a few vocab words that will give you a taste of what we did in class today.
Safety position – hunkering down in someone’s guard and not giving them any openings to submit you.
Pit stop – from guard, cramming your thighs up into your partner’s arm pits, simultaneously levering their arms away from their body and getting you a higher guard.  You can sometimes get a pit stop if someone is being lazy/ineffective with their safety position.
Double arm bar – the horrifying submission in which you manage to capture both your partners arms and hyper-extend them at the elbow.  Wanna see it in the context of an amateur MMA fight?  Of course you do… so go watch this video and then don’t let it happen to you.
