Two Technique Minimum

The idea of having at least two solutions to a problem has cropped up numerous times on the blog and well… here it is again.  Suppose you’ve got someone in your guard and they’re being a bit of a stinker – not really trying much and not letting you try to much.  Time to take the initiative and reverse the position (besides, always better to have the initiative anyway, right?)
The two options we went over today are the hip bump, where you drive your hips up into your partner at an angle, push them over and end up in the mount and the “getup”, where you pull both legs out and end up in quarters.  What’s particularly nice about these two techniques is that they are very complimentary – they start out the same way so that depending on the way your partner reacts, you can pick the more appropriate of the two.
As usual, we start with two techniques and once we’ve got those, the clouds begin to clear and many options become available to us – so long as we’re relaxed, ready and aware enough to take advantage of them.
