Moving Forward

Two fighters enter the ring.  One hits hard, the other moves well.  Which one do you pick to win?  It’s the classic conflict of power versus mobility.  Why not go for both in training?
The approach we took in kid’s class today was to start with a single stationary strike.  Throw one punch while holding a fighting stance.  Then we took a single step forward and threw a strike.  Then we threw two strikes as we stepped forward.  Then we shadowboxed.
Ideally, students would be throwing powerful grounded strikes at the start (stationary) and still be throwing powerful grounded strikes at the end (shadowboxing).  While we may not have achieved that ideal today, we moved ever forward… and will continue to do so.
