Professor King finished his sparring series seminars yesterday. We thought it was a perfect opportunity to take a bunch of photos to share and to post up at the new school.
Seminar time!
Here’s a simple drill from the seminar. Get a sparring partner. Have them walk towards you at a slow pace. When they get within striking distance, step straight in and fire a jab. Repeat the process with a back fist and a reverse punch. Make sure you throw both left and right strikes. Then take all three of those strikes and when your partner gets within range, step off at a forward angle slightly to your partner’s right side (instead of going in straight) and throw a jab. Repeat with the back fist and reverse punch. Repeat on the left side. Then repeat by stepping back at a slight angle to the left using each of the three punches alternately. Repeat with on the right side. Then you can take the whole drill and replace the three punches with a front snap kick, roundhouse kick and a side thrust kick.
I learned that I have a strong preference to angle left… which means my next long term sparring project is to force the right angle. The skilled fighter is the quality fighter.
