Making sure the reach does not exceed the task

There’s always so much to learn from the testing process in martial arts. It’s neat to see how far people have come since they walked in the door. It’s remarkable to watch students put out so much effort. For the teachers, it’s a great time to check out the results of our methodology.

Today in class we worked on snapping techniques back and extending techniques. The two ideas fit well together because often when you ask a student to snap a punch back, they rabbit style it and when you ask a student to extend a punch, they often leave their arm out as if to make a clothesline for all the neighborhood towels. So throw the two ideas together and hopefully you come out with a punch with reach that quickly returns to a good guard position.
