For Friday’s camp, our guest teacher was Quin Bakaty of Portland Aikikai.
Quin taught the students a technique in which they started facing their partner, in a wrist hold but ended up looking the same direction as their partner. The technique, he pointed out, illustrated that basic rule of problem solving (the theme of the day) when dealing with other human beings: if you can step away and from your own perspective and see things from the other person’s point of view, it is often becomes easier to find a solution that is a compromise between the two.
