Every time I teach at the YMCA I look over in the corner and see that big pile of giant bouncy balls. So on Wednesday, I made the decision. I will figure out a way to use those things in class today. And I did.
Students got to play the roll of Sisyphus. Roll the ball up the hill, jump over the ball 5 times. Roll the ball down the hill, sprawl on the ball 5 times.
The technique of the day was a straight punch block. The idea is that when a straight punch comes your way, you step 45 degrees away from it, ending up on the outside of your partner. As you step, you throw a counter punch which follows the line of their attack, deflecting it and hopefully lands a strike in their face. Good stuff.
