You’d think with this week’s theme being “up in the air” that for grappling class we’d do a flying armbar… but uhm, no – we didn’t. Instead we worked on three basic chokes: a guillotine, an arm triangle and a rear naked choke. For all three of them, we started with our partner in our guard. To close the guillotine, we finished in the guard. To close the arm triangle, we swept and ended in head & arm. To close the rear naked choke, we came up out of guard to quarters, cross faced to take the back and then surfboarded to take the choke.
I know it all sounds fancy because of all the grappling vocab, but it was way simpler (and safer) than trying a flying armbar.
