Jump rope. Squat. What could be finer? It was fun today to watch who got slowed up by the squats, who got slowed up by the jump ropes and who got slowed up by shortness of breath. (There may have also been some athletes who appeared to not be slowed down by anything, but we’ll just admire them silently for a moment while the rest of us strive toward that level of perfection.)
I guess my point is this: couplets (workouts with two movements) are a fantastic way to reveal weaknesses in the system. They are simple and relentless. There’s no “getting by” in a movement like there is in a chipper where you only encounter a movement once and then you can move on. It’s A then B then back again.
I propose a toast then, to basics, to couplets, to exposing weaknesses and to progress.
