Watching people do double unders isn’t very exciting unless you can spot the details. When you can notice their inefficiencies, things start to get interesting.
One inefficiency that I’ve started to notice is that most of us move one wrist more than the other. Unsurprisingly, if you are right handed, you probably whip your right hand more efficiently than your left.
At first, this is no big deal. A double under is a double under and when you are first working on it, just getting the rope to not whip you in the face is a win. However, once you start straining multiple jumps in a workout, efficiency is key. If you are whipping one wrist more than the other, then you are creating an imbalance. This imbalance means one arm will get more fatigued than the other and you aren’t spinning the rope as fast as you could.
Get both wrists spinning. If you’re not sure if you are guilty of this fault or not (not everyone is) then watch yourself in the mirror when you double under and see what you see.
