Try this experiment: row a 500 meter as fast as you can by yourself. Then, wait a couple days and row a 500 meter as fast as you can with someone sitting in a rower next to you (who also is rowing as fast as they can). Ideally, this would be someone close to you in rowing ability but since you can’t tell where anyone else is in the race, it doesn’t matter all that much.

If you’re like me, you’ll be surprised to learn that you row much faster with someone sitting next to you. So if you’re planning to re-test the challenge of the month soon, do it with some company.
