Theme of the Week: Range of Motion

Can you move both shoulders through a normal range of motion without pain? Can you sit all the way down into the bottom of a squat without your knees hurting? Can you throw a side kick up to your own head level without your hamstrings ripping out? Can you execute a backwards somersault without your spine shattering?

These are all range of motion questions that we will explore this week. Just like everything else we train in Kung fu, the idea is to investigate and push at the edges of our competency so that we reduce the surprise factor involved in an emergency. Know your range of motion, expand your range of motion.
