Direction?

Odd that opening your hips would help you send the barbell upward, right? After all, your hips open forward, not up so shouldn’t they send the bar forward? They could. Opening your hips forcibly can send a ball or a javelin forward. Opening your hips forcibly can send a punch forward.

The difficulty then is coordinating the body such that the hip opening continues the line of force upward and not outward. Today in class we looked at this issue in the push jerk. Everyone was taken aback because… they hadn’t been opening their hips all the way before and to actually do so was eye opening as well as hip opening.

Move that bar up.
