Theme of the Week: Chaining

I’m going out on a limb with the title of this week’s theme. The idea is that many of us, myself included, often give up after an initial attack. We try our technique, our partner defends and we back away.

Chaining, as I’m calling it, is that skill where when your first Technqiue fails, you see the opening that it has created and try a second technique. It is similar to combinations, of course, but I want to focus on that skill of noticing what the failed attack creates this week.

For instance, when you throw a backfist and your partner parries, does it leave their ribs open? Or, when you try for an Ezekiel choke and your partner defends, does it open up the opportunity to move to high mount?
