Knives

smilesandstabsOne place to start when thinking about a knife is to consider the way the weapon works.  For the most part, you’ve got to be close to someone to use a knife.  Sure, there are lots of cool movies where people throw knives effectively but for the most part, it’s a very difficult thing to do.

The takeaway: if you can keep your distance, do.  Honestly, it’s not much different from the way I view any physical altercation.  If the problem can be avoided or solved in some other reasonable way, make it happen.  Stay away.

If the knife must be engaged, keep the same point in mind – they’ve got to be close to make use of that knife.  If you can disrupt their mobility and then make distance – do it.  One way to do this would be to control the knife (don’t get stabbed) as best as possible and take out the knees.
