Today for the 4 and 5’s class, we fell. We fell forward. We fell backwards. The good news is that we were doing all this falling on purpose – we were practicing falling safely and seeing if we could keep moving right along.
Why should young children learn to fall on purpose? Because they do it anyway as play. Most children love to roll and fall when given the opportunity. They are exploring movement. Today we took that instinct, ran with it (fell with it?) and maybe ingrained a safety tip or two like, “tuck your chin” or “roll don’t flop”.
