So concealed within each sparring glove and boot is a small magnet of a positive charge. In addition, all the Kung Fu students have had thousands of tiny magnets of negative charge surgically implanted beneath their skin. Therefore, when we spar, it’s so easy because our gloves and boots practically leap forward to attach themselves to our partners.
Not really but that’s the fable I tried to tell the students tonight in order to sell them the idea of trying to use independent motion in sparring tonight. We spend so much time in class talking about generating power from the foot, which transfers in a whip like chain through the ankle, knee, keep, torso, shoulder and fist to deal a devastating blow to our partner. Not so for tonight. Tonight we led with our fists (full of magnets) to see if we could throw quicker, sneakier shots at our (full of magnets) partner.
