Get Under It

Deep in the desert, behind the veil of sand storms, you will find the mystical “third” way of pressing… the push jerk.  The “first” way to press is to simply shove the weight up with your arms – it is known as the shoulder press.  The “second” way is to recruit some help from the legs – it is known as the push press.
The “third” way involves diving under a push press while it’s in mid air – the push jerk.  There is a weight out there that you can’t push press – weather that is 20, 200 or 400 pounds is irrelevant.  The point is at some weight the push press stops working.  Here is where that dive underneath (the jerk) comes to save the day.  Do the push press and then dive underneath… if you’re fast enough, you’ll be able to straighten your elbows, then stand up and then brag to all your friends that you’ve been initiated into the mystical “third” way of pressing.
