Floating versus stomping. It’s a tough fight, right? Not in the case of the olympic lifts. Stomp. Don’t float. Jump up to create the force and then get your body immediately back down under the bar.
Don’t stomp like a donkey – by throwing your feet back and then to the ground – that creates force in the wrong direction. Jump up and then stomp down. Make sure the jump is a full jump, one in which the hips open all the way. For bonus points, you can even let this movement travel through the torso and the head, creating a whip (plus space for the bar to move through) that then helps you get under the bar.
So many words. Practice your stomp. Take 5 minutes before class for a couple months and you’ll find vast improvement in your technique and conveniently, your numbers as well.
