Sled pulls and Knee kicks

What is power? In fitness terms it’s moving weight through space quickly. This weight could be your own body or it could be a medicine ball. Increasing either the weight or the speed will increase the power. In martial terms it’s moving a striking surface (such as a fist) to the target as quickly and forcefully as possible.

So how do you work power in a 4 and 5 year old class? We approached the martial angle by having them throw knee kicks as fast as possible with as much body weight as possible behind the strike. For the fitness angle we had them drag the medicine ball weighted air shields by a jump rope – as fast as they could and increasing the weight of the ball every round.
