The negative consequence is students will try and throw that same kind of punch when their partner gets in close or worse, they won’t throw anything at all. So we practiced getting in tight, grabbing each other and throwing strikes from the clinch. An elbow here, A knee there, throw in a headbutt or two for good measure and everything is sunshine all over again. Not really, but the drill does build a comfort in the clinch.
Comfort builds confidence. Confidence builds confront. Confront builds competence.
To further spice up the class, we did a series of kettlebell swings and rope climbs. The beauty of the kettlebell is the dynamism of it. Like a good fighter, a good kettle bell practitioner never stops moving.
