Courage

Speaking of camps, the theme of the first one was courage. For one of the drills, we had one student stand alone while all the others threw punches at them. Sound easy? What if all the students were belting out their most powerful ki-ai (japanese for spiritual harmony, it’s a martial artists battle cry)? Definitely harder.

For the older kids who did the staff form, they not only got to learn new moves, but they got to do 4 count street with the 5 foot staves in their hands. I could hear kid’s eyes opening wide.

Next camp is problem solving. Luckily, I had a student tell me a riddle today.

An explorer is captured by cannibals. They give him the following ultimatum. “Your life hangs on your next statement. If you want to live, you must speak logically. If your statement is true, we will boil you alive. If your statement is false, we will burn you at the stake.”

What logical statement could the explorer give and escape with his life?
