At all sites this week: Southwest Charter, Lewis, and Winterhaven schools, students were offered a chipper that encompassed three “one-minute” stations that involved wall-ball, box jumps, burpees and the like. The trick unfolds…
Mid-way through the class students are put through the circuit, and work through each station without pause to accumulate “points” (one for each technique executed correctly) that carry over from station to station. The chipper ends at the three minute mark, when all participants are given the option of sharing their totals with one another.
Now comes the devious part. After running through some basic requirements for about twenty minutes, the students get to do the same workout again. The difference is this time they have first hand knowledge of how difficult/easy each station is. The hope is that the second time though, they will have a strategy for getting more points than they did the first time. True to the adage that practice makes perfect, most students beat their original score.
