Girls Inc. Girls & Kung Fu

Lane3

Today, Michelle Johnson and I co-taught an Intro to Kung Fu class to the Girls Inc. after-school empowerment group at Lane Middle School. The class centered on flexibility (the mental variety), or developing as many diverse tools as one can~ to skillfuly avoid and manage conflict.

We touched on Martial Arts as a means to delvelop competency in not getting involved in confrontation in the first place, and gave students a good workout (just to insure that they would come away with an idea of what the dicipline was all about)!

The girls also developed their own personal Martial “Seals,” or symbols which serve to represent their philosophy on favorable traits as problem solvers and compassionate individuals. I am very much looking forward to our other Girls Inc. ‘year-ender’ engagement this Monday at Boise Elliott Middle School!
