The students at Lewis Elementary had opportunity to work with partners to alternately “give off,” and “read” two different facial expressions, one coined the ‘What are you doing?‘ face, and the other the, ‘You need to stop that right now!‘ face. All the dramatics between friends triggered a lot of laughter and gleeful expressions…
The underlying message, as it was explained to the children was that it is important to be able to look other people in the face, be they friends, teachers, caretakers…know when they are putting out extreme expressions, and adjust your behavior accordingly. Likewise, to be able to curb another person’s behavior without ever having to verbalize or engage in physical confrontation~takes a fair amount of skill!
