The theme of todays’ (President’s Day) camp was Curiosity. Students were led through a variety of no-contact sparring drills where they were encouraged to watch one another and notice predictable body mechanics, or give-aways.
A regular drill in Mo Duk Pai Kung Fu that lent itself well in comfortably working with these concepts today was Harmony Sparring. It allows students to watch their partners and maintain “no-contact” in executing strikes to open targets. It also demands that pairs maintain active footwork in moving “in and out” of their opponent’s critical distance range throughout.
Students could choose to put on sparring gear and put it all to work within the ring. Having adopted an attitude of analytic inquisitiveness, students worked especially cooperatively with peers in looking to improve their game…a more evolved take on “winning” in our view!
