The year of the Tiger starts this Sunday, the 14th. It’s a perfect time to bring out the Lion Dance drum and share it with all the students. Lion Dance is often performed around Chinese new year to help usher in good luck and keep the bad luck at bay.
We played a bit on the drum together and also used it for a game of freeze dance. It’s a simple game. If there is music playing, you dance. If the music stops, you freeze.
What’s music and Lion Dance have to do with Kung Fu? Good athletes have a sense of rhythm. Without it, movement becomes labored, robotic and ineffective. Plus, it’s fun.
